Silsbee, Texas
Silsbee is a city in Hardin County, in the piney woods and Big Thicket country of Southeast Texas, about 19 miles north of Beaumont. It grew up around the East Texas timber industry, beginning as a railroad and sawmill town when a lumber line reached the area in the 1890s, and it took its name from an East Coast partner in that railroad venture. The surrounding Hardin County landscape of dense pine forest, creeks, and thicket bottomland places the town at the edge of the Big Thicket region.
Property here runs through the Hardin Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Hardin County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
