Kountze, Texas
Kountze is a city in Hardin County in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas, about 23 miles northwest of Beaumont. It is widely known as a gateway to the Big Thicket, the densely forested region of pine, hardwood, and wetland whose Big Thicket National Preserve lies just outside town. The surrounding landscape of thick woods and swampy bottomland is among the most biologically varied in Texas.
Property here runs through the Hardin Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Hardin County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
