Paint Rock, Texas

Paint Rock stands on the Concho River in the ranching country of Concho County, about 30 miles east of San Angelo in west-central Texas. The town takes its name from the Painted Rocks, a long limestone bluff just north of the river bearing hundreds of Native American pictographs, one of the most extensive rock-art sites in the state. Human and animal figures, geometric symbols, and painted handprints cover the cliff face, some of them dating back many centuries and continuing into the period of Spanish contact.

Property here runs through the Concho Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Concho County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
