Novice, Texas
Novice is a small community in northwestern Coleman County, in the rolling ranch and farm country of West Texas about 32 miles south of Abilene. The town grew from an earlier settlement called Tyro on Rough Creek and shifted to its present site along the railroad in the early twentieth century. Cotton and cattle long shaped the local economy, and a modest oil boom drew workers to the surrounding fields in the early 1930s.
Property here runs through the Coleman Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Coleman County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
