Goree, Texas

Goree is a small city in Knox County, in the Rolling Plains country of northwest Central Texas, about 71 miles northeast of Abilene. The town developed in the early 20th century when the Wichita Valley Railroad reached the area, and it became a center for the cotton, wheat, and grain sorghum grown on the surrounding plains. The land around it is open and level to gently rolling, given over largely to farming and ranching.

Property here runs through the Knox Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Knox County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
