Who handles property taxes in Knox County

Two desks at 100 W. Cedar St. in Benjamin do two different jobs, and people mix them up all the time. The Knox County Appraisal District puts a value on your property each year, and that number is what your tax bill is built on. The tax assessor-collector is the one who actually sends the bill and takes your payment. Same building, different work.

So if you think your value came in too high, the argument goes to the appraisal district. They own the number. The tax office can't lower it for you no matter how nice they are; their side of the counter is collecting, not valuing. Walk your protest to the appraisal district, and bring whatever you have that shows the house is worth less than they say.
