Waterloo Lake Gives Denison Both Paved Walks and Sandy Trails

At 1101 Waterloo Lake Drive, Denison has a park that works at several speeds. The 211-acre Waterloo Lake Regional Park holds a 52-acre lake, ballfields, a dog park, a fishing pond, a fishing pier, a kayak launch, and a boat ramp. Paved walking and soft-surface trails begin from the same park.

The trail system moves between concrete and sandy ground. The sandy surface dries faster than other trail surfaces. Creeks and Cave Loop offers regular and steep routes. Upper Bluffs folds inclines, declines, and loops into the west side. Woodland Loop bends around a small creek.

The paved track around the Backyard is 0.69 mile. From there, walkers can branch toward Woodland Loop, Creeks and Cave, Katy Trail, or the main trail across the city's 'Bridge to Nowhere.' Waterloo is not one grand trail. It is a set of choices around a city lake.
