Register Your Car at the Johnson County Tax Office
Texas changed its inspection rule in 2025. Most personal cars and trucks no longer need a safety check. Johnson County is still in the emissions program. Gas vehicles that are 2 through 24 model years old will often need an emissions test before a new tag. An exemption or waiver may apply. Commercial vehicles still need a safety check.
The Johnson County Tax Office handles titles and tags at 2 North Mill Street in Cleburne. It has other county locations too. Some renewals can be done online. A new Texas resident usually has 30 days to register, and the first visit is often in person. TxDMV's live pages carry the current papers, fees, hours, and exceptions.
