No Emissions Test Required to Register Your Car Here

Texas only requires emissions testing in certain large metro counties. Those are mostly in the DFW, Houston, and El Paso areas. Erath County is not on that list.

Starting January 1, 2025, Texas also ended mandatory safety inspections for most non-commercial vehicles statewide. For most Erath County residents, that means you only need to register your vehicle and pay the registration fee.

Registration is handled through the Erath County Tax Assessor-Collector. You can renew online at the TxDMV renewal portal. You can also renew in person at the Stephenville or Dublin offices.
