Most Hood County cars now renew without an inspection

Texas ended safety checks for most personal vehicles on January 1, 2025. Hood County is outside the 17-county emissions program. Commercial vehicles still need their own check. So 'no inspection' is not a rule for every truck.

Renew online, by mail, or through the Hood County tax office. Online renewal opens 90 days before the tag expires. It may remain open for up to 12 months after that when no ticket was issued. An expired tag still does not make the car legal to drive.
