Most Texas cars no longer need the old safety inspection

Beginning in 2025, Texas eliminated the annual safety inspection requirement for most non-commercial vehicles.

Registration still includes inspection replacement fees, and emissions testing still matters in certain counties.

Your renewal may look different, but the county tax office and TxDMV still control the exact registration total.
