Vehicles registered in Nueces County use the Two Steps, One Sticker program

Texas still uses one windshield registration sticker. Since January 1, 2025, many personal vehicles no longer need a yearly safety inspection before registration. The old step went away for non-commercial cars and light trucks.

Nueces County is not one of the 17 emissions-testing counties. For many local drivers, that means no emissions stop either. Renew online through TxDMV or at the Nueces County tax office.

Bring proof of insurance. Commercial vehicles follow different inspection rules, so check TxDMV if the vehicle is used for work.
