The Railroad Commission regulates oil and gas in Taylor County
The Railroad Commission of Texas, or RRC, is the state agency that oversees oil and gas drilling, production, and pipelines. Despite the name, it no longer regulates railroads.
Taylor County is in RRC Oil and Gas District 7B, served by the Abilene office. The RRC issues drilling permits, keeps well and production records, and takes oilfield complaints.
Its Public GIS Viewer can screen for mapped wells and pipelines by address or other identifiers. The lines and points are approximate, so the map is not a parcel survey. For a purchase or building plan, confirm key locations through RRC records and a survey.
