Rio Bosque Brings Back River Habitat
Rio Bosque Wetlands Park is a 372-acre City of El Paso park in the lower valley, near the Rio Grande and the old mission communities. UTEP's Center for Environmental Resource Management runs it for the city, working to bring back the wetlands, river woods, and grassland that once lined this stretch of river.
The result is a very different outdoor story than the mountain trails most people picture in El Paso. This is a place about water, plants, and birds — more than 200 species have been recorded here, and guided bird walks are a regular draw. The park is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, with walking trails and a visitor area at the Bosque Trailhead.
Conditions change with the seasons and with how much water is in the channels, so check UTEP's Rio Bosque page before you go to confirm gates, trailheads, tour dates, and current access.
