Public hunting land is available in Throckmorton County
Most land in Throckmorton County is private ranch land. TPWD's Annual Public Hunting Permit is one route into public hunting areas around Texas. TPWD says hunters still need a Texas hunting license and any required stamps. The permit covers more than 180 public hunting areas, including wildlife management areas, state parks, and dove and small-game areas leased from private landowners.
Do not treat the permit like a blank pass. Each unit has its own map, schedule, and Legal Game Box. TPWD says old map booklets are obsolete, so use the TPWD booklet or online map before you enter a unit.
Landowners have a separate local option. TPWD lists the Throckmorton County Range and Wildlife Management Association as area 99. It is a private-citizen group for managing property for wildlife. TPWD says the map is only an official boundary guide. Member land can sit outside it, and the boundary can change, so call the association contact for membership or boundary details.
