Your Appraisal Notice Carries the Real Protest Clock
For 2026, GAD posted May 15 as its general protest deadline. Texas law says the usual deadline is May 15 or 30 days after the district delivers the notice, whichever is later. Read the date on your notice and portal. Do not assume May 15 fits every account.
File on time to keep an Appraisal Review Board hearing open. The ARB is separate from GAD. An informal talk may settle the case, but it does not take the place of filing. An ARB order is not always the last step. Some cases can go to court, binding arbitration, or SOAH, the state hearings office.
