Harris County Has Payment Paths for Property Tax Bills
You do not have to pay a Harris County property tax bill all at once. The Tax Office takes payments online, by phone, by mail, or in person, and it accepts partial payments. A partial payment does not erase the balance, but it can reduce the penalty and interest that build on what remains.
If the taxes are already delinquent, ask about an installment agreement. The Tax Office offers plans from 12 to 36 months. On a homestead plan, no new penalty is added, though 1% monthly interest still accrues. The account also stays out of the collection law firm, which is what can add a 15-20% attorney fee.
Near a deadline or old tax year, work from the Tax Office property tax pages. Confirm how the payment will post before sending money.
