Harris County Has Payment Paths for Property Tax Bills

You do not have to pay your Harris County property tax bill all at once. The Tax Office accepts payments online, by phone, by mail, or in person, and it takes partial payments. A partial payment does not erase what you owe, but it does shrink the penalty and interest that pile up on the unpaid balance.

If your taxes are already delinquent, ask about an installment agreement. The Tax Office offers plans running from 12 up to 36 months. The real value is what an agreement prevents: while you are paying on a homestead plan, no new penalty is added (1% monthly interest still accrues), and the account is not handed to the collection law firm — which is what triggers the extra 15-20% attorney's fee.

If you are near a deadline, paying off a prior year, or trying to dodge that collection fee, work straight from the Tax Office's property tax pages and confirm how your payment will post before you send money.
