Fort Bend's Pay It Forward Program Lets Owners Escrow Property Taxes

Most homeowners with a mortgage never see their property-tax bill directly, since the lender escrows for it. If you own free and clear, or you'd rather not face one big bill every January, Fort Bend County's tax office runs an option called Pay It Forward. It's a one-year escrow contract, authorized under Texas Tax Code Section 31.072, that lets you set money aside month by month toward next year's taxes.

The tax collector sets the monthly amount so your estimated bill is covered by the target date, and the contract has to include all the taxing units the Fort Bend office collects for (county, school, MUD, and the rest), never a single one on its own. Miss a payment and the contract can be voided, so it rewards steady deposits.

It's a simple, county-run way to spread the cost without a finance company. Before you count on it, confirm the current sign-up window, the monthly amount, accepted payment methods, and how any leftover balance is handled with the Fort Bend Tax Office.
