Who Handles Property Taxes in Dallam County
The Dallam County Appraisal District (CAD) appraises all property in the county each year. It then sends those values to the taxing units (Dallam County, Dalhart ISD, Texline ISD, and the City of Dalhart, among others), which set their own tax rates. You pay one bill, but several local governments share it.
If you live in your home as your main residence, you likely qualify for a homestead exemption. This lowers the taxable value of your home. Texas law requires school districts to give a $140,000 homestead exemption. You apply at the appraisal district, not at a city or county office. The district's website is dallamcad.org, and you can call them at 806-249-6767. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for a current list of all taxing units in the county.
