Strawn Has 4,871 Acres of State Park Country

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park puts 4,871 acres of former ranchland within public reach at 100 Park Road 77 in Strawn. Its 16 miles of multiuse trails cross the rough hills on foot, bicycle, or horseback. Of that total, 1.25 miles are accessible, and the park loans all-terrain wheelchairs.

Tucker Lake is the gentler side of the park: 90 acres with a kayak and canoe launch, fishing pier, fish-cleaning station, and loaner fishing gear. Motors are not allowed. Anglers fishing from inside the state park do not need a license.

Camping ranges from water-and-electric sites to walk-in, hike-in primitive, and equestrian sites. Rain can close trails, and weekend campsites can fill. For either kind of trip, open the TPWD alerts and reservation calendar before leaving home.
