No emissions test required for vehicle registration here

Texas changed its rules on January 1, 2025. Non-commercial vehicles no longer need a safety inspection before you register them. You can renew your registration without getting one first.

Some Texas counties still require an emissions test. Those are mostly large urban counties. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality keeps an official list. That list has 17 counties on it. Hudspeth County is not one of them.

If your vehicle is registered in Hudspeth County and is not a commercial vehicle, you are done. No emissions test. No safety inspection. Just register.
