Getting a Marriage License in Travis County

Marriage licenses in Travis County go through the County Clerk's Recording Division. Both people apply together, in person, at the Civil and Family Courts Facility at 1700 Guadalupe Street (4th floor) in downtown Austin, and each shows ID allowed under Texas law. There is no residency requirement, so you do not have to live in the county to get your license here.

Watch two timing rules. Texas requires a three-day waiting period between the day you get the license and the ceremony, unless you qualify for a waiver (active-duty military, or a completed Twogether in Texas course). And the license expires if it is not used by the 90th day after it is issued, so do not pull it months early.

After the wedding, the signed license has to come back to the County Clerk within 30 days to be recorded; the office then mails the recorded copy back to you. Confirm current fees, ID rules, and appointment steps on the County Clerk's marriage page before you go.
