Marriage License

Getting Married Here Means a Trip to the Clerk in Person

The County Clerk works out of Room 124 at 400 W. Sinton Street, and that's where every marriage in San Patricio County legally begins. Both people have to show up in person to apply, with no mailing it in and no finishing the whole thing from your couch. The office that handles it is Gracie Alaniz-Gonzales's, open Monday through Friday, 8 to 4:30, and the desk line is (361) 364-9350.

What you can do online is order a certified copy of a license you already have — handy if the original got lost in a move or you need proof for a name change. But the license itself starts face to face.

Texas also runs a 72-hour clock: the license usually can't be used until three days after you apply, so a Friday-afternoon application doesn't get you a Monday wedding unless you qualify for a waiver. Bring a valid photo ID for each person and plan the courthouse trip a few days ahead of the date you actually want to say your vows.
