A 121-County Service Map Starts in Lubbock
The health sciences center's map gives one clear sign that Lubbock serves a wide region. TTUHSC links programs, partner hospitals, class sites, students, and alumni. Those ties now form a 121-county service area. Lubbock is home to the flagship campus. This does not mean every patient comes here. It means one city anchors a much wider network.
The network grew from a real shortage. When the medical school formed in 1969, 23 western counties had no hospital and 19 had no doctor. The school used Lubbock as its main office and then grew across several campuses. That story helps explain why higher education and medicine are so tied to Lubbock's identity.
