Castell Crossing Opens 950 Feet of the Llano River

As checked July 31, 2026, Texas Parks and Wildlife's lease at Castell Crossing opened about 950 feet of Llano River frontage on the north bank near Castell. The agreement was listed through August 31, 2027.

The site allows bank fishing and the launch or takeout of canoes, kayaks, and other nonmotorized boats for fishing. Access runs from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Overnight camping is not allowed, and vehicles and trailers must stay in the designated parking areas.

Castell Crossing sits about 6.6 river miles downstream from Maso Llano Road. TPWD points visitors to the USGS gauges at Mason and Llano for current flow, but it does not publish a Castell-specific safe-flow number. Check the gauge, weather, and access page before leaving home.

The location also puts an old map detail back in view. Castell's 1847 settlement began on the north bank; after a post office opened south of the river in 1872, the community centered there. Today's leased tract offers a public route to the north bank again, within the posted property boundary.
