Lake Meredith Offers Boating, Fishing, and Camping Near Amarillo

The flat High Plains give way to rough canyon country around Lake Meredith. The national recreation area covers 44,978 acres, and the reservoir sits among Canadian River breaks that rise roughly 200 to 300 feet.

There is no entrance or boating fee. Eleven camping areas are spread around the lake; most are free and first-come, while ten hookup sites require a paid reservation. Most anglers need a current Texas fishing license and freshwater endorsement.

This is a place to check conditions before towing a boat. Ramp status, water level, storms, wind, and submerged debris can change the day. Cell service is weak in places, so open the NPS boating and safety pages before leaving Amarillo.
