Trail system Stories & local character

Creekside Trail follows Bighead Creek through Kilgore

Creekside Trail is Kilgore's green line beside Bighead Creek. The system has more than 3.5 miles of winding paths for walkers, runners, and bike riders, with the main leg from Stone Road to Leach Street running just over 2.5 miles. Trailheads sit at Stone Road, Houston Street, Dudley Road, and Leach Street, with another access point at Moccasin Trail.

In a city people often picture through oil derricks and highway crossings, Creekside puts a wooded, everyday route into the same local map. You can start near one neighborhood, cut along the creek, branch toward Dog Bark dog park, or keep the main path as a simple out-and-back.

The trail also shows how Kilgore is building outdoor identity in small pieces. Sections opened in 2018 and 2020 as part of the Kilgore Trails System. It is not a state park or a lake trip, and that is fine. It is the kind of path that makes a regular Tuesday in Gregg County a little easier to enjoy, especially when you just need fresh air close to home.
