The Val Verde homestead form belongs at the value desk
For 2026, a main home that meets the rules gets a $140,000 school-tax exemption. An owner who is 65 or older or meets the disability rule gets another $60,000 school exemption. Local units may offer more, so savings vary by address.
Form 50-114 goes to the Val Verde County Appraisal District. The general deadline is before May 1. Someone who buys after January 1 may get the exemption for part of that year if the prior owner did not get it.
The owner must use the house as a main home and cannot claim another homestead. The chief appraiser decides who meets the rules, so call the district when ownership or time away from the home makes the answer less clear.
