Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill

Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on their main home. This lowers the taxable value of your house for school district taxes. Kent County's only school district is Jayton-Girard ISD.

To get this benefit, you file an application with the Kent County Appraisal District. You need a copy of your Texas driver's license or ID showing the same address as the home.
