Hamilton Pool is a natural landmark with reservation reality

Hamilton Pool Preserve is one of the most striking natural spots in western Travis County. Hamilton Creek spills over the limestone rim and drops about 50 feet into a jade-green pool inside a collapsed grotto, a box canyon carved out over thousands of years. It sits near Dripping Springs, southwest of Austin.

The access rules are strict, and they matter. Travis County Parks says you need a reservation every single day of the week, made online before you arrive. Walk-ups without a reservation are turned away.

Just as important: a reservation does not guarantee swimming. The county tests the water, and swimming is sometimes closed when bacteria levels run high or after heavy rain. Treat Hamilton Pool as a special place that needs a plan, and check the county page for the day's swimming status before you drive out.
