Every new Wilson County well starts with Evergreen paperwork
Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District covers Wilson County. A new well must be registered before drilling, even when the finished well will not need a production permit.
The main line is what the well can produce. A well that cannot produce more than 25,000 gallons a day is generally exempt from production permitting. Larger and other nonexempt wells use the permit path. The district rules, tract, and planned use settle the answer.
For an existing rural well, ask for its registration or permit record. Also ask whether it is active, capped, or abandoned. A pipe in the pasture does not show whether the paperwork or well condition is sound.
