DriveTexas Does Not Cover Every Flooded Wise County Road

A familiar back road can become the wrong shortcut after hard rain. Wise County's January 2026 draft thoroughfare plan says many low-lying roads flood regularly during heavy rain, cutting off access and forcing detours. The plan calls reliable alternate routes part of the solution.

TxDOT says as little as six inches of fast-moving water can make a driver lose control, even in a pickup or SUV. Never walk, swim, or drive through flood water, and never go around a barrier at a flooded road or low-water crossing.

DriveTexas is useful, but it is not the whole local map. Its road-condition data covers the state-maintained system. TxDOT says city and county roads belong with local authorities, so pair the state map with Wise County or city updates. If water or a barricade blocks the road, take the long way.
