Bee County's Development Permit Starts with a Flood-Map Check

Bee County asks for a development permit before new construction, placing a mobile home, adding fill, or changing a waterway. The form asks for the flood-map number, map date, and flood zone. Community Affairs handles the permit at 216 S. FM 351 in Beeville. Its phone number is 361-621-1553.

Use FEMA's Flood Map Service Center to search by street address, place, or coordinates. It is the official public source for National Flood Insurance Program maps. If the land is in a mapped flood-hazard area, provide plans and details. The Floodplain Administrator may ask for more information or other permits.

A mapped zone is a starting point, not a promise about every storm. Land outside a special flood-hazard area can still flood. Take the map result, 911 address, and legal property description to Community Affairs before choosing a pad or building location.
