Much of Galveston County Is in a High-Risk Flood Zone

On FEMA maps, zones beginning with A or V are Special Flood Hazard Areas. V zones add the danger of storm-driven waves. Look up the building itself, not only the parcel or a nearby street.

A lender generally must require flood insurance when a building in one of those zones secures a federally regulated or backed loan. A lender may require coverage elsewhere too. FEMA draws the map, but the lender makes the loan decision.

Use FEMA's Map Service Center for the effective map and panel. Then ask the lender and insurer what applies to that building. The line on a map is useful, but it is not a promise that one side will flood and the other will stay dry.
