Historic Site Stories & local character

Denison Is the Birthplace of Dwight D. Eisenhower

Dwight David Eisenhower was born at 609 S. Lamar Ave. in Denison on October 14, 1890. He was the first U.S. president born in Texas. The modest frame house where he was born became a state park in 1958, while he was still president. The Texas Historical Commission now runs it as the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site.

The site is open Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Guided tours are offered throughout the day. Admission is $6 for adults, with lower rates for seniors, veterans, and youth. Children 5 and under are free. Prices can change, so verify on the THC website before visiting.
