Downtown Nacogdoches Keeps Its Old Street Life Visible

Downtown Nacogdoches is more than a courthouse backdrop. The Texas Historical Commission says the district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A second THC piece points to the red brick streets as part of the city's public face.

The old core still has daily work to do. THC lists shops, studios, galleries, museums, and regular events. The city's current calendar still places the farmers market at the old hitch lot on Pearl Street. That name keeps a horse-and-wagon memory in an ordinary Saturday morning.

Brick pavement, old storefronts, a market lot, and museums help downtown feel layered instead of merely old. You do not have to enter a museum to find the history. It is underfoot, around the square, and making room for a Saturday market.
