White-Winged Dove Hunting Is a Big Draw in the Valley
The Valley draws dove hunters, and the season opens early here. Hidalgo County sits in the South Zone. For 2025-2026, the special white-winged dove days are September 5-7 and September 12-13.
The regular South Zone season runs September 14 through October 26, then opens again December 12 through January 22. The daily bag is 15 doves combined. No more than 2 of those may be white-tipped doves.
You need a Texas hunting license, a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement, and HIP certification. Dove dates change each year when migratory bird rules are set, so treat these as the 2025-2026 dates and check TPWD before you go.
