Crockett's highway numbers moved to Loop 304 in 2025

Four highway families still lead into downtown Crockett, but their through-route numbers no longer meet at the courthouse square. On September 25, 2025, the Texas Transportation Commission placed SH 7, SH 19, SH 21, and U.S. 287 on Loop 304. Their former downtown legs became Business SH 7, Business SH 19, Business SH 21, and Business U.S. 287.

That commission action changed route designations on existing roads; it did not announce a new bypass. Each business route still uses the same one-block sides of the square: East Goliad Avenue, South 5th Street, East Houston Avenue, and South 4th Street. Business SH 19 follows Fourth Street, while Business U.S. 287 leaves downtown by Fifth Street and East Bowie Avenue.

The SH 21 family carries another layer. It follows much of the El Camino Real corridor, though modern roads approximate many portions of the old route rather than duplicate them. The square is not a proven piece of the original trail. Its story is visible on the current map instead: four business routes still fold around the county courthouse even after the through-route numbers moved to the loop.
