Creek Trail
Chacon Creek Has Trails, Birds, and Evening Bats
The City of Laredo describes the Chacon Creek Hike and Bike Trail as a growing trail network winding along the creek in south and south-central Laredo, good for walking, biking, and bird watching.
The standout is the bats. A Mexican free-tailed bat colony roosts in the creek under the Meadow Avenue overpass, and the city has leaned into it with a small exhibit and signs asking trail users to respect the roost. On a summer evening, that overpass is a free wildlife show right in town.
Check the city's trail notices before planning a sunset bat stop. Use the public access points and stay out of the creek channel after storms, when water can rise fast.
