Harris County Businesses May Need to Render Equipment to HCAD
Business personal property is the taxable gear a business uses to make money: equipment, furniture, tools, stock, and business vehicles. Reporting it to the appraisal district is called a rendition. HCAD says the rendition is required once the total market value tops $125,000.
Skipping the rendition does not skip the tax. HCAD still has to set the January 1 market value of the property. Filing gives the owner a chance to put real numbers on the record instead of leaving the value to the district alone.
The deadline is April 15, or the next Monday if it falls on a weekend. Most businesses use the general rendition form. Businesses with vehicles may also need the vehicle schedule.
