Burn Ban

When You Can Burn Brush in Harrison County

In the Piney Woods, clearing brush by burning is just part of country life, but Harrison County's burn ban switches on and off with the weather, and burning while it's in effect is against the rules. As of this writing the ban was lifted on March 11, 2026, so outdoor burning is allowed. That can change fast: one hot, rainless stretch in July or August and the commissioners can reinstate it.

The call belongs to the county judge and commissioners court, who put a ban in place when drought conditions push wildfire risk up. The county posts the current status on its burn-ban page, and the Fire Marshal's page carries the same message, so a thirty-second check before you strike a match tells you where things stand that day.

This applies to the unincorporated county, outside any city. If your place sits inside Marshall or another town, the city's own fire rules are a separate question — ask there too before you burn.
