Fire Permit
Some Austin Venues Need Fire Permits Before Opening
Austin Fire says its Office of the Fire Marshal issues several permits related to public assemblies, hazardous materials, fire protection systems, and prescribed burns. One listed permit is the Annual Public Assembly permit, required for public establishments that operate at an occupancy of 50 or more people and whose gross sales are 51% or more alcohol.
This is separate from a building permit, food permit, or TABC license. A music venue, bar, large restaurant, event space, or warehouse-style business may need to clear fire-permit questions before opening to the public. Start with Austin Fire's permit page and confirm which fire, building, health, and alcohol approvals fit the specific address and use.
