Who handles property taxes in Garza County

Main Street in Post does double duty when it comes to your property taxes. At 124 E. Main St., the Garza Central Appraisal District decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. That's the office you walk into to protest a value you think is too high, or to file for a homestead exemption.

Walk a few doors over to 300 W. Main St. and you're at the Garza County Tax Assessor-Collector, a separate office that takes the value the CAD sets, prints the bill, and collects your payment. Five taxing units share that one bill: Garza County, the City of Post, Post ISD, Southland ISD, and the Garza County Hospital District. Each sets its own rate, so the total you owe is really five line items stacked together.
