A TPWD Annual Public Hunting Permit Opens State Lands
TPWD opens more than a million acres of public hunting land through its Annual Public Hunting permit. The permit covers many state-managed hunt areas for one yearly fee.
The permit can cover deer, feral hogs, dove, quail, turkey, waterfowl, and other game on public land. The price can change, so check TPWD rather than last season number.
For a Valley hunter, distance is the catch. Much of the public acreage sits far north of Hidalgo County. Some units also add special rules or drawings. Pull up the map near home first, then decide whether the permit fits your plans.
