Smith County spans ten school districts

Smith County has ten separate school districts. Tyler ISD is the largest. Others include Lindale ISD, Whitehouse ISD, Chapel Hill ISD, and several smaller districts, a couple of which reach in from neighboring counties. Each district covers its own defined area of the county.

Your school district matters in several ways. It affects your property tax rate because each district sets its own rate. It also determines which public schools your children would attend.
