East Texas / Piney Woods

Talco, Texas

Talco is a small city in the Piney Woods of East Texas, in Titus County near the Franklin County line, about 63 miles northwest of Longview. The town's history is bound up with the Talco oil field, discovered along the Mexia-Powell-Talco fault zone in the 1930s, which turned the community into a busy oil boomtown for a time. The surrounding country is the wooded, gently rolling landscape of the north-central East Texas basin.

Property here runs through the Titus Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Titus County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
