St. Jo, Texas
St. Jo is a small city in Montague County, in the rolling prairie and Cross Timbers country of North Texas about 40 miles northwest of Denton and not far from the Red River. The town lies in ranching and farming land near the historic route that carried cattle drives north through this part of the state in the nineteenth century. It retains an old town square lined with brick buildings from its earlier days as a trade stop on the plains.
Property here runs through the Montague Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Montague County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
