San Benito, Texas

San Benito is a city in Cameron County in the Rio Grande Valley, on the flat coastal plain north of Brownsville near the southern tip of Texas. Known as the Resaca City, it is threaded by resacas, the old river channels that now serve as irrigation canals and shape the town's layout. San Benito was the birthplace of the Tejano and country singer Freddy Fender, whose life is commemorated with a museum and historical marker in his hometown.

Property here runs through the Cameron Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Cameron County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
