Runge, Texas

Runge is a small town in Karnes County, in the South Central region southeast of San Antonio, set in the rolling farm and brush country between the coastal plain and the South Texas ranch lands. It grew up as a railroad town along the line that once ran through the county, and its economy has long rested on farming, ranching, and later oil and gas from the surrounding fields. The town takes its name from Henry Runge, an early merchant and banker whose company helped establish the community.

Property here runs through the Karnes Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Karnes County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
