McCamey, Texas

McCamey is a city in Upton County in the Permian Basin country of West Texas, about 50 miles south of Odessa and 60 miles south of Midland. The surrounding land is arid oil-field terrain on the western reaches of the state. The town grew as an oil boomtown after petroleum was discovered in the area, and the local economy has long been tied to the oil and gas industry as well as, in more recent years, wind-energy development.

Property here runs through the Upton Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Upton County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
